Tamarisk Coalition – Restoration Coordinator

Description: The Tamarisk Coalition (TC) is a non-profit organization providing education and technical assistance to restore riparian lands in the West. The Coalition is seeking creative individual(s) to work in the dynamic field of riparian restoration. The Restoration Coordinator will work in conjunction with the Tamarisk Coalition staff, many organizations and agencies to support restoration efforts in the Grand Junction area, state of Colorado, and the western region of the United States. Specifically, this position’s main focus will be working in conjunction with the Dolores River Restoration Partnership (DRRP). The DRRP is a collaborative restoration partnership of public and private entities whose goal is to restore the Dolores River riparian corridor to enhance native vegetation and manage invasive weed species. Location/Hours: This position is based in Grand Junction, Colorado. Professional full-time hourly position, 40hrs/week, flexible work schedule to accommodate projects needs including travel and
working some weekends.
Wages/Benefits: Based on education and experience. Range is $35,360 - $39,520/year plus benefits including health insurance stipend, continuing education stipend, holiday/vacation/sick pay, and 403 (b)
7 retirement plan and employee assistance program.
Primary Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities described below may also include support for other Tamarisk Coalition programs. Some responsibilities and/or qualifications may change depending on the individual and/or specific needs as they relate to projects. All of the described responsibilities require
strong written and verbal communication skills.
? Coordinating and leading partnership/watershed-wide meeting and several DRRP
subcommittees (working knowledge of vegetation monitoring and grazing practices is
preferred).
? Coordinating with land managers and their respective agencies to plan, develop funding for and
implement watershed scale restoration projects (includes grant writing).
? Communication and coordination with natural resource managers at the State, local and federal
level
? Public presentations
? Skills in GIS mapping & GPS coordinate capture preferred; Data management in accordance
w/TC protocols
? Planning and conducting various vegetation surveys and project monitoring protocols with other
TC staff, often in remote locations
? Researching, coordinating, drafting and/or editing technical papers
? Potential for project and contract management
? Assist on other TC projects such as volunteer program and outreach, fundraising, newsletter
development
Qualifications: Bachelor degree preferably in a biological science, environmental science, or related field; preferably two years of restoration or practical environmental science experience; preferably
working knowledge of western US riparian ecology.
? Experience in developing and or implementing vegetation monitoring techniques and protocols ? Familiarity with public and private land use, (grazing, agricultural production, resource
management, passive/active recreational uses)
? Experience in planning, implementing and managing restoration projects. 2
? Computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.)
? High level of GIS/GPS ability in restoration/conservation context
? High level communication, organizational, and multitasking skills; ability to work in a team
Special Job Requirements:
• Must have a dependable car and valid driver's license, registration, and insurance for travel
throughout Colorado, eastern Utah, and other western states.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed
• Physical ability to hike, backpack, and raft (oar boat)
• Current or willingness to obtain Wilderness First Aid Certification.
