I think it depends on why one is using Ecolog. Personally, I use it as a source of current community activity/conferences/jobs to help me gauge for the future. I have also used it to ask questions about my own research and have received very helpful tips from students and professionals alike. I think it can be a useful tool for networking to some extent as well.
