Source Habitat Quality and Metapopulation Dynamics
 in Marine Ecosystems

Symposium at the CERF 2011 meeting in Daytona Beach, FL.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Population connectivity is gaining importance as a vital component in
maintaining stocks and wild populations in the face of anthropogenic
impacts. This organized oral session will integrate basic research and
theoretical modeling with management and policy in the field of spatial
population dynamics. While the topic of spatially structured populations is
not novel, few researchers incorporate both population dynamics and habitat
characteristics to provide a mechanistic understanding of connectivity
patterns. Understanding the ecological characteristics that promote or
restrict population connectivity is essential for effective implementation
of spatially explicit management strategies.

We seek oral and poster presentations on the above subject, however all taxa
or systems would be welcome.
