Hi Kirsten, I have a few experience with that ;-) To cut it's better, as Malcon said, a sliding microtome. I use this one that it isn't too expensive: http://www.wsl.ch/staff/holger.gaertner/GSL1_Microtome_web.pdf and to stain you can use alcian blue, instead of astra blue, and safranin. The concentration depends on the tissue, and you can mix both in a unique solution and save time.
