Billy and Others.... About lead, and we this discussion on another list. Actually became quite interesting.
I don't know what the test is for lead. You are very active in this area, so call Carolina, Lamotte, etc. and they can help you. About a year ago, was at a friend's house....she had just bought a water filter. I was a bit shocked by the taste of filtered water vs. water out of the tap. Now, I know this research my be a bit flawed because it was done by Aquasana. See their "unbiased" website at: http://www.waterfiltercomparisons.com/water_filter_comparison.php?d=gp&gclid=CK_p8K3U55wCFRHxDAod3iqKFw What I found most interesting were not the ratings, but the various compounds, elements, etc. in drinking water. My friend has a Britta filter, and again amazing how her filtered water tastes. Certainly go to your State of NY's DNR. I don't know what they are called, but in MI, our DNR will give you printed reports up-stream and down-stream for a gazillion compounds and elements. They could be scewed?, as I have said in the past our DNR and Midland Dow Chemical walk around hand in hand. Have seen it first hand. Also, have the State of MI's fishing regulations in my hands right now. I do love to Fish, but it is quite scary to read about alerts down-stream of Dow's head-quarters on the Tititbawasee River. Kind of takes the fun out of fishing? Michigan flaunts itself as one of the cleanest States in the U.S., but then we have to discuss PCB's, PBB's, nitrates and the list goes on. I have never been tested, but one great movie by Ron Howard, it is called "Bitter Harvest". The reviews say it is fiction, but it is actually quite true. We have a major cattle-feed contamination of either PCB's or PBB's, can't remember....but have told that with its incredibly long half-life ALL people in Michigan now have this great chemical stored in their body-fat. We can talk about blood chemistry and this dynamic somewhere down the road. Sorry, am not in a great mood as my Bears lost a game they could have won yesterday. If you work for Dow, great, but I don't have time to answer your e-mails. Thank you. Mike Nolan I'm planning to reorder some test kits for standard freshwater measurements, including dissolved oxygen, nitrate-nitrogen, phosphate, chlorine. In the past, I've used both Lamotte kits as well as Chemets kits. I have a Vernier meter and some probes, but find that less useful given the need to calibrate in the field. Does anyone have hard information on the reliability and accuracy of different kits/methods? Are there other methods/kits I should explore? ---------- If we are on another line or away from the phone, please leave your number, best time to return your call and/or your e-mail address. After hours and weekend phone appointments are available upon request. Sincerely, J.
