Rebecca,

We have been using a Olympus LS-10
Linear PCM Recorder with a AudioTechnica AT 897
condenser microphone to record a variety
of animal vocalizations successfully (including
cranes and kiwis). We're saving the files
in .wav format.

Hope this helps,
Anne
