Thank you for all the advice. It was great to get feedback from so many
varying perspectives. I was aware of the fact that the professor at
post-doc 1 might receive these e-mails. However, I was completely
honest with him and he knew my situation from the first time I spoke
with him. I figured honesty would be the best route and the only way to
avoid burning bridges.
Therefore what I did was update him on my situation, rather than
outright accept the position and potentially back out later. He was
understanding and has agreed to give me a few more days until I hear
back from post-doc 2, which I plan to call Monday. The reason I simply
e-mailed post-doc 2 rather than call is because it is not an academic
institution, meaning there is more to the situation than just calling a
professor in a lab and trying to get feedback.
Either way, thank you for all your advice.
