Thanks, Josh. This is related to a recent post of mine in which I asked for
information about light (radiation) requirements/tolerances in relation to
habitat, niche, and (by inference) evolution. I was specifically interested
in a simple graph (I don't remember if the form of graph had a name) that I
saw in Ricklefs 2nd edition that incorporated a number of organism-dependent
factors. If this jogs anything with you or others, I'd be glad to hear from
you or others on- or off-list. I'd like to determine where this idea got
started (Ricklefs?) and its current status as a too for understanding such
relationships.

PS: The Persians were pretty good at taking advantage of physical and
physiological laws to be cool, particularly in the form of ventilation and
cooling, but then maybe that is mentioned in your bibliography, which I
haven't checked thoroughly. Maybe Wendee covered this. Haven't looked at her
piece either--tangled up in a thousand other things right now . . .

Guild. There is a taxonomy of "Nature's" design strategies, as well as a
searchable case studies database, including other design examples of
humans
learning from insects.
