The noted ecologist Charles Birch died in Sydney, at age 91, last December. He's probably best known for the book he co-authored with Andrewartha (The Distribution and Abundance of Animals (Andrewartha and Birch, 1954)), but wrote quite a few other books and papers. There will be a Resolution of Respect in a forthcoming issue of the Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America, by Paul Ehrlich and Graham Pyke. If you'd like a copy of the bibliography of Birch's 163 publications, I have both Word and EndNote versions you can request.
