Postdoctoral Scientist, Mobile Genetic Elements

Josephine Bay Paul Center

Marine Biological Laboratory

Woods Hole, MA

Position Summary: An NSF-funded postdoctoral position is available at the Josephine Bay Paul Center for Comparative Molecular Biology and Evolution, Marine Biological Laboratory, to study mobile DNA and evolution of genome defense mechanisms in rotifers and fungi. Funding is available for one year, with the possibility of extension. Informal inquiries should be addressed to the PI Dr. Irina Arkhipova at <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected].

Additional Information: MBL (www.mbl.edu) is a private non-profit research institution located in Woods Hole, MA, 80 miles southwest of Boston. The Josephine Bay Paul Center within the MBL (jbpc.mbl.edu) is a highly collegial community of scientists broadly interested in evolution and interaction of genomes of diverse prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. State-of-the-art facilities are available in computational biology, high-throughput sequencing, and advanced imaging. The Mobile Genetic Element Cluster at the MBL hosts an annual Northeast Mobile DNA meeting and other mobile DNA-related activities.

Basic Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology or a related field, and possess an ability to work independently and creatively. Expected skills include standard techniques used in molecular biology and biochemistry (molecular cloning, DNA and RNA analysis, protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization).
