The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Marine Resources Program
(MRP), has immediate needs for two positions located in Newport, Oregon:

1. Shellfish Program Leader (NRS4) - Leads the Shellfish Program (17
positions).  Program includes research, fishery management, and public
education on Oregon's ocean and estuary invertebrate species and
associated habitats.

2. Programmer Analyst (ISS4) - Programmer and technical data systems
development specialist, and assistant project leader for the Marine
Information Project).  This position closes at 5:00 PM on Thursday, July
9, 2009.

In addition, the Marine Resources Program is most likely going to be
recruiting for 8 NEW positions in the next 1-2 months, also located in
Newport, Oregon.  The caveat "most likely" is added because our budget
is awaiting final authorization. If our budget is authorized in its
present form, we will be looking for talent in the fields of marine
ecology, fisheries management, socio-economic analysis, and marine
policy/public process.  A list of positions with brief descriptions and
expected classification level is included below.  These jobs will be
posted on the ODFW jobs website (URL above), so those interested in any
of the positions should check that website on a weekly basis over the
next few months.  

 

Marine Reserves (all 2-year limited duration positions for 2009-11
biennium):

1. Research Project Leader (SFWB) - Lead and coordinate biological and
habitat assessments for proposed marine reserve sites.

2. Research Assistant Project Leader (NRS2) - Assist in leading and
coordinating biological and habitat assessments

3. Community Support Leader (NRS3) - Facilitate public process and
provide support to community teams for marine reserve proposals, plans,
and implementation.

4. Socio-economic Analyst (NRS3) - Lead and coordinate socioeconomic
assessments for proposed marine reserve sites and associated communities

 

Shellfish Assessment (permanent positions):

1. Shellfish Assessment Project Leader (SFWB) - Lead a project to
conduct research, inventory, and monitoring of shellfish and estuarine
habitat

2. Shellfish Assessment Assistant Project Leader (NRS2) - Assist in
leading the shellfish and estuarine assessment project

 

Fisheries Management (permanent position):

1. Dungeness Crab Fishery Manager (NRS3/NRS4 - class to be determined) -
commercial crab manager responsible for fishery data analysis, and
conducting biological and policy/regulation development work to manage
the industry

 

Derelict gear program (temporary position):

1. Natural Resource Specialist 2 (NRS2) - to assist in the
implementation of an 18-month program to characterize the status of
derelict fishing gear in Oregon and assist in an initial removal effort

 

We will also be hiring up to 9 NEW entry-level positions (Experimental
Biological Aide - EBA) over the next 3+ months, to support these three
new programs.
