Laboratory Technician
Ecological Impacts of Nanomaterials

DURATION: This is a full-time position for 1-year.  The start date is 
flexible, but preferably by August, 2009.  

SALARY RANGE: $2,167 to $2,330 per month depending on background and 
experience. 

DUTIES: The successful applicant will work in Dr. Brad Cardinale’s 
([email protected]) freshwater ecology laboratory at UCSB.  This 
individual will help manage the laboratory while also assisting with 
experiments that focus on understanding how different types of 
nanoparticles (metal oxides, nanotubules, quantum dots) impact freshwater 
food-webs composed of algae, invertebrates and fish that inhabit streams 
and lakes.  Responsibilities will include ordering of equipment and 
supplies, maintenance of species in culture, set-up of experiments, 
collection, management, and analysis of data.  For further information on

WHERE: The University of California, Santa Barbara is perfectly situated 
between the beach (surfing, whale-watching, scuba diving, etc.) and the 
Santa Ynez Mountains (terrific hiking, camping, birding, etc).  To top it 
off, there’s great night-life to boot!  

REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in Ecology and 
Evolution, Environmental Science, Biology, or a closely related field or 
combination of experience and education.
