Field assistant needed immediately for an ongoing study of the ecology of small 
mammals as potential vectors of plague in black-tailed prairie dog colonies in 
northern Colorado.  Position will primarily involve live-trapping small 
mammals, but also collecting tissue and blood samples from mice, and swabbing 
burrows for fleas.  Other duties may include observing and quantifying behavior 
in the field, measuring vegetation and habitat characteristics on study areas, 
and laboratory work to identify fleas.

Prior experience with small mammal live-trapping is required; experience with 
blood and tissue sampling is highly desirable.  Must be in good physical 
condition, good-natured, even under difficult field conditions, and have a 
valid driver's license.

Dates:  mid-May to mid-August 2009 (~15 weeks)
Salary:  $10/h, plus dorm-style housing at the SGS-LTER field station northeast 
of Fort Collins, Colorado
