Description: Spend 6‐months in Southern Nevada working with the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association providing environmental educational programs at Red Rock Canyon and with the Boys and Girls Club. Gain applied teaching and curriculum development experience while pioneering a critical education program in the Las Vegas area. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the field of environmental education and provide a lasting contribution to the environment and youth of Nevada.
Compensation: This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living stipend of $9,298.20 for the season. This is not an hourly wage or a salary and is paid to members bi‐weekly throughout the entire year. Upon completion of AmeriCorps service, members shall receive an additional education award in the amount of $2,362.50 that can be used for paying off student loans, or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college. Timeline: May 4, 2009 October 30, 2009 Description: Responsible for developing, scheduling, and presenting Environmental Education programs. Programs are presented onsite at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation NCA and offsite in Clark County classrooms. Schedule is typically 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday,8am‐5pm, but some evening and weekend service will be required. Skills Required: Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; Excellent public speaking skills; Basic computer ability in Windows format; Must have the ability to hike on uneven terrain up to 2 miles; Ability to speak Spanish is desirable Opportunity to: Develop ability to design Environmental Education programs; Develop ability to write Pre & Post program lesson plans; Develop ability to teach informal education programs in both classroom and outdoor setting; Gain Experience managing 30‐70 K‐5 children in an outdoor and/or classroom setting; Gain knowledge of Mojave Desert and related ecosystems. Requirements Must have a current drivers license and be able to obtain CPR & First Aid Certification within 3 months of employment.
