Late in the game, sorry for that. However, being an environmental historian before I began to pursue biology allowed access to some fine examples that fit in very well with your list.
3 that I can think of that I would not want to live without and that I can't seem to keep a copy of because I keep giving them away are: J. Krutch: The Desert Year (Krutch was a major inspiration to E. Abbey by the way) & R. White: The Organic Machine, an environmental history of the Columbia River & finally W. Stegner: Where the Bluebird Sings to the Lemonade Springs Krutch and Stegner lean towards philosophy and feelings about the biology of western America, White however is a renowned environmental historian and this small book is a fantastic example of what the field has to offer biologists seeking both perspective and inspiration in their work and viewpoints.
