Biology Department
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University of
Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St.
Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin. Year around arts, cultural and
recreational events are easily accessible. UWRF ' s 6,400 undergraduate and
graduate students pursue degrees in four colleges: Arts and Sciences; Education
and Professional Studies; Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Science; and
Business and Economics. The University provides an excellent environment for
learning, emphasizing the importance of faculty-student interaction in
classrooms, laboratories, scholarly activities, academic advising, and
co-curricular activities. A favorable student-faculty ratio affords opportunity

Department offers major options in Biomedical Sciences and Field
Biology.
The Position: The Biology Department seeks to fill a Laboratory Manager
position. This individual supports the department's classroom and research
laboratories, and assists faculty and students in conducting laboratory
activities. Responsibilities include preparing media and solutions, setting up
labs, ordering supplies, maintaining and repairing equipment, training and
supervising students, and coordinating collection and disposal of hazardous
waste. Courses supported by this position include Introductory Biology, Cell
and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Botany, Animal Cell Culture and others as
needed. This is a 12-month, 83% position available July 1, 2008. Hours
generally follow the academic calendar and are somewhat flexible. Compensation
is based on qualifications, including education and experience.
Qualifications (Required) :
* B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or related area at the time of
application;1-2 years of relevant laboratory experience outside of coursework;
* Experience with microbiology and molecular biology techniques (e.g.
aseptic technique, media and solution preparation, micropipetting,
electrophoresis, PCR);
* Experience using and maintaining laboratory equipment;
* Evidence of excellent interpersonal, organization and time management
skills; ability to follow directions and work independently, delegate
responsibilities and supervise tasks;
* Proficiency in basic computer applications such as word processing and
spreadsheets;
* Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations
and ability to contribute to the University's commitment to enhancing student
awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.
