*”WAYS TO DIVERSITY” *
*- harmonizing transport infrastructure with the landscape *
**
Uppsala Castle 7-9 October 2008
Today's road networks are dense. Our transportation needs are
increasing, and large road and railroad investments can be expected in
the near future. This places increasing pressure on our natural and
cultural assets in the landscape.
*How are animals and humans affected by roads and railroads? Which
values and qualities in the landscape do we want to preserve? How can we
enhance infrastructure planning? *
This conference puts focus on the effects of transportation
infrastructure on ecological, social and cultural values in the
landscape. Effects in the landscape are not well considered in present
road- and railroad planning. Accordingly, today's transport system is
not environmentally sustainable. During the last few years, we have seen
several examples where larger infrastructure projects have been in
conflict with natural and cultural assets of great value. New
strategies, methods, and tools need to be developed in order to achieve
a future transport system that does not interfere with environmental
objectives. This conference aims at presenting and discussing solutions
for this development.
The conference is arranged by the Swedish Biodiversity Centre, in
cooperation with the research programme INCLUDE
<http://www.includemistra.org/>, part of TransportMistra
<http://www.transportmistra.org/>. The conference will present the
results from the three first years of research from this programme, but
also invites researchers and practitioners from Nordic countries to
contribute with their competence and experience in shaping transport
infrastructure which is in harmony with the landscape.
Last day for conference registration is *Sept 7th* for hotel accommodation.
