POSITION PURPOSE:

=20

The Managing Director of the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program (ALLP) at =
the Woods Institute for the Environment is the organization's senior =
staff member and serves as a primary spokesperson for the program. =
Launched in 1998, ALLP advances environmental decision-making by =
providing academic scientists with the skills and connections needed to =
be effective leaders and communicators. The ALLP currently selects 20 =
Leopold Leadership Fellows from across North America and conducts two =
major training sessions for the Fellows each year. Since the program's =
inception, 115 academic environmental scientists have completed Leopold =
Leadership Fellowships and are actively engaged in scientific outreach =
on a range of issues from marine conservation science and river =
restoration ecology to the impacts of global climate change on human =
health.

Working closely with the Program's Science Director and external =
Advisory Board, the Managing Director is responsible for implementing =
the strategic plan, developing program policy, articulating the mission, =
vision, and goals of the organization and positioning the ALLP for =
long-term sustainability by developing activities that link =
administrative resources, financial support, and program staff. S/he is =
responsible for ensuring that the organization meets its programmatic =
goals each year while also guiding the future strategic direction.=20

The Managing Director is expected to be a strategic thinker and =
implementer comfortable taking on a large agenda with a small staff. The =
ideal candidate will develop and mentor a strong team to manage =
day-to-day operations while devoting appropriate time to interacting =
with the Science Director, the Advisory Board Chair and members, Woods =
Institute directors and staff, and other partners.=20

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

=B7        Direct and lead all ALLP activities including the selection =
and training of Leopold Leadership Fellows.=20

=B7        Work with a diverse set of advisors to develop and implement =
new program strategies and strengthen existing training efforts. =20

=B7        Coordinate and oversee internal outreach activities to the =
Fellows and members of the ALLP Network, and coordinate support services =
provided to current and past Fellows to build a strong and vibrant =
network.=20

=B7        Work with the Woods Institute's Associate Director to promote =
Fellows and their expertise to decision-makers who are working to =
address society's most pressing environmental challenges.=20

=B7        Help position the ALLP for long term sustainability through =
the cultivation of foundation staff and individual donors.=20

=B7        As a senior training administrator for the Woods Institute, =
collaborate with faculty and staff to provide knowledge and best =
practices to help expand and strengthen all Woods training programs.=20

QUALIFICATIONS:
=B7        Strategic thinking and ability to implement to deliver on =
measurable results

=B7        Track record of successfully managing organizations-ideally =
in the education and environment realms-in a climate of growth and =
change, while maintaining fidelity to mission and fiscal discipline

=B7        Demonstrated experience running training programs and =
developing vibrant fellowship/alumni/member networks

=B7        Superior written and verbal communication skills=20

=B7        Skills in recruiting, directing, motivating and developing =
staff while building a nimble yet effective infrastructure to support a =
small organization

=B7        Proven ability to develop projects and organizational budgets =
and to oversee financial details

=B7        Superb organizational and interpersonal skills with an =
ability to work under pressure and diplomatically prioritize =
sometimes-conflicting demands=20

=B7        Creativity, tact, thoughtful judgment, and vision coupled =
with the ability to listen to others and learn from their best ideas
