=20 POSITION PURPOSE: =20 The Managing Director of the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program (ALLP) at = the Woods Institute for the Environment is the organization's senior = staff member and serves as a primary spokesperson for the program. = Launched in 1998, ALLP advances environmental decision-making by = providing academic scientists with the skills and connections needed to = be effective leaders and communicators. The ALLP currently selects 20 = Leopold Leadership Fellows from across North America and conducts two = major training sessions for the Fellows each year. Since the program's = inception, 115 academic environmental scientists have completed Leopold = Leadership Fellowships and are actively engaged in scientific outreach = on a range of issues from marine conservation science and river = restoration ecology to the impacts of global climate change on human = health. =20 Working closely with the Program's Science Director and external = Advisory Board, the Managing Director is responsible for implementing = the strategic plan, developing program policy, articulating the mission, = vision, and goals of the organization and positioning the ALLP for = long-term sustainability by developing activities that link = administrative resources, financial support, and program staff. S/he is = responsible for ensuring that the organization meets its programmatic = goals each year while also guiding the future strategic direction.=20 =20 The Managing Director is expected to be a strategic thinker and = implementer comfortable taking on a large agenda with a small staff.
