Dear Ecolog members, I am studying pollination of Silene stellata (Caryophyllaceae), and I am looking for multiple populations across its range (most of North America east of the Rockies). I have found records of the species at some general localities, but it's most helpful to have recent information on the population size and specific locality information. I am hoping some of you may have spotted this plant near your field site.
You can find excellent photos and a general description at the Missouri Plants website: http://www.missouriplants.com/Whiteopp/Silene_stellata_page.html I am also looking for information on the range of one of the plant's pollinators: Hadena ectypa (Noctuidae). I know the range generally overlaps that of the host plant, but I am wondering if there are areas near the edge of the plant range where H. ectypa does not occur with S. stellata. Natural history collections may be the best source of this information. Please also let me know if you have suggestions of other avenues to pursue in my search for these species.
