While it is important to understand why the public might not be
concerned about global warming, I believe it is even more important to
share our scientific knowledge and our personal conclusions in the
context of public dialog. In early 2008, there will be an opportunity
to do that.

"Focus the Nation" is a year-long planning effort, now forming, to
increase public awareness of what must be done to minimize the potential
consequences of global warming.

The idea is to coordinate symposia and activities on college campuses,
in high schools, faith organizations, business, and civic organizations
to discuss strategies to combat global warming. Organizers hope to
inject the topic of "global warming" into the political dialog the way
the first Earthday injected concern over other environmental issues into
the political dialog in in 1970.

Activities will be coordinated to occur on or around January 31, 2008
(14 mos from today), in hopes of focusing the nation's attention on the
global warming crisis in the run-up to presidential primaries.
