Pollinator Partnership Symposium - October 18, 2006 USDA South Building at Independence Ave., Washington D.C.
The partners of the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign have organized a one-day symposium, "Pollinator Partnership: Protecting Plant-Pollinator Interactions Worldwide," hosted by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Forest Service on October 18th. This first-ever symposium will showcase the interdisciplinary efforts of diverse stakeholder groups to conserve, monitor, and sustain populations of pollinators and their habitats throughout North America and beyond. Speakers will discuss the role of pollinating species in maintaining healthy agricultural and wild ecosystems, and actions that everyone can take to ensure the future of pollinators, and ourselves. Highlights will include the unveiling of several federal-level actions to promote pollinator awareness. Invited speakers include U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns, USFWS Deputy Secretary Marshall Jones, Dr. May Berenbaum of the National Academy of Sciences Status of Pollinators Scientific Panel, Dr. Steve Buchmann of The Bee Works, and others.
