Dear List Members:
Several species of trees, including Populus spp., in our state are either exhibiting premature leaf color change or what appears to be leaf scorching. The latter is pervasive in the invasive Norway maples (Acer platanoides). This follows record rainfall this spring and summer. I realize it is speculation without further study but, could increased precipitation be linked to enhanced fungal growing conditions or changes in tree leaf chemistry?
