Kellogg Bird Sanctuary Job Rank/Title: Academic Specialist/Environmental Education Program=20 Coordinator Department: Kellogg Biological Station, (KBS) Michigan State University Reports To: Assistant Director for Education and Outreach Appointment: annual, recurring, full-time Salary and Benefits: $40,000.00 to $45,000.00/year, dependent on=20 qualifications. Full health benefits. Voluntary retirement fund=20 participation for the first two years of employment, after that mandatory=20 participation with University double match. Duties: Plan, oversee, evaluate and promote education/outreach programs,=20 primarily at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, in ecology, natural science,=20 resource conservation and sustainable natural and managed resources. Assist= =20 with other education and outreach programs at KBS as needed to extend the=20 reach of the educational mission. =95 Work as a member of a collaborative education and outreach team with=20 representatives from other KBS units, including Land and Water Extension,=20 Academic unit programs and courses for undergraduates, Kellogg Dairy Farm,= =20 and Kellogg Manor House. (25%) =95 Research, develop, deliver and assess a comprehensive environmental=20 education program for a diverse clientele at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary.=20 Groups include but not limited to: K-12 schools, preschoolers and parents,= =20 senior citizens, local community organizations, adult education, and casual= =20 drop-in visitors. (30%) =95 Manage the human resources of the Bird Sanctuary; supervise current paid= =20 staff; recruit, train and retain volunteers; recruit, train, supervise and= =20 mentor interns. (15%) =95 Maintain administrative program records including information databases,= =20 budgets, and program reports. (15%) =95 Assist with the development, design and production of promotional,=20 instructional and interpretive materials, including signs, brochures, a Web= =20 site and media releases. Coordinate and conduct publicity to promote=20 awareness of Bird Sanctuary programs to insure good attendance and public=20 involvement. (15%)
Qualifications: =95 MS or equivalent experience in environmental education, natural=20 resources, science education, nature interpretation, or a related field. =95 Minimum of three years experience in a natural resources education and= =20 outreach position with a track record of meeting goals. =95 Grant writing and acquisition skills. =95 Computer literacy with database management, excel spreadsheet,= PowerPoint=20 presentations, word processing, digital photography and desktop publishing.= =20 Web design experience a plus. =95 Excellent organization skills. Creative problem-solver. Multi-tasker. =95 Good communication and people skills for building liaisons with KBS=20 staff, community and campus-based partners. Ability to maintain a positive= =20 team atmosphere as a supervisor of staff, students and volunteers. =95 Experience with program development and evaluation. Knowledge of=20 standards-based education and other professional development issues for=20 K-12 schools. =95 Ability to write in a clear, engaging and professional style.
