Employment Opportunity: Information and Data Management Specialist

The Grassland Conservation Council of British Columbia (GCC) is seeking
an ambitious, energetic and organized individual to work as a team with
the GIS Coordinator to complete the Priority Grassland initiative. Using
a recently completed provincial grassland GIS in conjunction with other
data sets and the expertise of regional agrologists, ecologists,
grassland experts and First Nations, the successful candidate will
solicit data, manage information and deliver effective communication and
facilitate a process that will identify priority areas in each of the
major grassland regions across BC. Value criteria such as rare and
unique ecosystems, species at risk, habitat, grassland condition,
landscape connectivity, levels of representation, forage value and risk
will be applied to identify priority grassland sites. This analysis and
collaborative process will yield strategic recommendations for each
grassland region, supported by maps, data and other information. The
information and tools produced through this initiative will be extended
to provincial, regional and local governments, First Nations, and
industry to inform land use planning and decision-making as well as
achieve conservation and stewardship of BC's grasslands.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and facilitate the retrieval of data and the management of
information.
- Facilitate effective communication between all levels of government,
First Nations, NGO's and other partners.
- Coordinate and facilitate communications, workshops and meetings with
scientists, resource professionals, land use planners and other
experts.
- Assist with the development of maps, analytical tools and supporting
information to assist in land use planning and decision-making.
- Coordinate the production of regional strategic documents, including
grassland portfolios, regional conservation targets, grassland status
reporting and recommended strategies for conservation. 
- Organize meetings with provincial technical advisory committee,
regional committees and government.
- Write reports, program updates for funders and partners and prepare
funding proposals.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on the priority grassland
initiative.
- Work with GCC staff and board to effectively communicate and raise
the profile of the GCC and its programs and the need for conservation
and stewardship.

Qualifications:
- University degree in Geography, Ecology, Agrology, Natural Resource
Science or related field
- At least 3 years work experience in natural resource management, land
use planning and Geographical Information Systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage several tasks and
multiple deadlines
- Good understanding of government, ArcGIS, Arcview and data-base
management

- Must be able to work well as part of a team and with committees
- Excellent inter-personal skills, diplomatic, cheerful, and dynamic
- Must be resourceful and a creative thinker
- Motivated, self-starter

Full-time term position to March 31, 2007 (Extension for two additional
years subject to funding). 
Start Date: September 01, 2006 or ASAP
Annual Salary: commensurate with experience. Includes benefit package.
