WildMetro is a small not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting
nature in metropolitan regions. We conduct research on urban ecology in
and around New York, educate children and adults about the importance of
urban wildlife and urban natural areas, and advocate for a sensible
balance of development and nature protection in urban regions.

The Research Coordinator will assist in leading WildMetro’s research
programs, focusing on 1) our ongoing study of small mammal communities in
urban-influenced areas, and 2) developing new, and expanding other
existing, research programs. Specific responsibilities include conducting
field work, writing and editing research proposals and reports, analyzing
data, recruiting and training volunteers, coordinating logistics, securing
state and other permits, and participating in WildMetro’s education and
advocacy programs. This position is ideal for someone wishing to gain
field experience and a hands-on, in-depth understanding of the research
process. Successful applicants will practice animal handling techniques
and write and communicate grant, educational, and presentation materials.

Requirements include an undergraduate degree in Biology, Ecology, or a
related field; prior field or research experience; proficiency with
Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; a willingness to communicate and
cooperate with people from different backgrounds; and the ability to work
independently and as part of a team. This is a full-time position based on
an intern pay scale; exact salary amount will be commensurate with
credentials and experience.
