FIELD COURSE - Applied Bioacoustics in Conservation and Practice Join us for an immersive two-week field course on bioacoustics in one of Africa’s most iconic conservation landscapes. Hosted in collaboration with the Organization for Tropical Studies and the African Bioacoustics Community, this course combines lectures, practical fieldwork, and hands-on data analysis to explore how bioacoustics can advance conservation and ecological research in terrestrial ecosystems.
Location: Skukuza Research Station, Kruger National Park, South Africa Key Topics: * Principles of bioacoustics and sound propagation. * Field recording techniques and passive acoustic monitoring (PAM). * Signal processing, data management, and species classification. * Applications of bioacoustics in ecosystem monitoring and conservation. Dates: * Course 1: March 23 – April 05, 2025 * Course 2: July 06 – 19, 2025 Who Should Apply: Graduate students, researchers, conservation practitioners, and anyone with an interest in using sound as a tool for ecological and conservation research. Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available. Applicants must submit a motivation letter as part of their scholarship application. REGISTRATION AND MORE INFORMATION Visit https://tropicalstudies.org/course/applied-bioacoustics/. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and spaces are limited.
