Conservación Amazónica - ACCA is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a Botany Research Assistant within our Botany Program at the Wayqecha Biological Station, next to Manu National Park, Peru. This position provides hands-on experience in plant biodiversity research and conservation science.

*Position Details:*

 * Position: Botany Research Assistant
 * Start Date: mid-January, 2025
 * Duration: 3 to 6 months (minimum 12 weeks)
 * Location: Wayqecha Biological Station, Peru

*Key Responsibilities:*

 * Investigate growth patterns of various plant species through
   germination tests at different elevations to determine the impact of
   altitude on seed development.
 * Set up and oversee plots that include or exclude livestock to assess
   their effects on plant ecosystems.
 * Track plant species across ecotone boundaries to gain insights into
   transitional areas.
 * Perform comprehensive surveys of trees, shrubs, herbs, and epiphytes
   at varied mountain elevations to document biodiversity shifts
   related to altitude.
 * Catalogue species and gather DNA from plants to build a genetic
   barcode library, enhancing species identification and supporting
   conservation initiatives across elevation gradients.
 * Analyze collected data to uncover trends in species diversity and
   distribution, and develop reports and presentations to disseminate
   findings.
 * Collaborate with team members and engage with local communities for
   effective data gathering and project implementation.
 * Assist in maintaining station facilities and support the volunteer
   program.

*Requirements:*

 * Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, or related fields.
 * Proficiency in English and Spanish.
 * Physically fit and capable of working many hours in a challenging
   environment.
 * Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a
   multidisciplinary team in a multicultural environment.
 * Ability to live in basic conditions.
 * Passionate and hardworking with a desire to learn and improve,
   committed to scientific research and conservation efforts.
 * Enthusiastic naturalist with a strong interest in ecological questions.
 * Good writing skills and willingness to be active on social networks.
 * Empathy and problem-solving skills.
 * Knowledge in botany monitoring surveys. Previous research experience
   in any capacity is a plus.
