Postdoctoral Associate: Prescribed fire and pyrogenic carbon production The Forest Ecosystem Sciences Lab and the SilvaLab at the University of Florida-Gainesville invites applications for a postdoctoral associate to be jointly mentored by Drs. Jason Vogel and Carlos Silva in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS). The associate will investigate the linkage between pyrogenic carbon production during prescribed fire, soil carbon turnover, and remotely sensed vegetation structure in the lower coastal plain of the southeastern United States. We seek a researcher with interests in ecosystem or soil carbon cycling, fire ecology, or using LiDAR to understand vegetation structure. Researchers with a background in soil or forest science, geography / remote sensing, or ecology / biology are encouraged to apply. Desired attributes of the selected applicant include ability to complete tasks and work independently, comfort with a GIS and the R programming language, and an ability to traverse difficult terrain in subtropical heat. The position is funded for at least two years with a starting salary of $60K / year + benefits and an annual increase commensurate with performance. The research will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Yong Zhou at Utah State University.
