The Institute for Ecological Monitoring and Management <https://iemm.sdsu.edu/> (IEMM) at San Diego State University is hiring a postdoctoral research associate in applied quantitative ecology under the direction of Drs. Megan Jennings and Rebecca Lewison. The postdoc will lead ongoing and new research across multiple projects working collaboratively with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, land management agencies, and other partner organizations to provide science in service of conservation and management for species of conservation concern and critical habitats in California.
Role: - Contribute to research on wildlife population trends, dynamics, connectivity, abundance estimation, and habitat use in collaboration with public agencies and resource managers. - Conduct spatial and statistical modeling, including investigation of population dynamics and trends, occupancy modeling, and other applications of multivariate statistics and Bayesian techniques. - Propose, develop, and complete independent analyses to contribute to a research portfolio of relevant projects. - Work in a team of researchers, sharing ideas and contributing expertise in a collegial and supportive setting. - Participate in project and research meetings with a diverse range of stakeholders. - Contribute to and lead development of scientific manuscripts. Qualifications: A PhD in ecology, biostatistics, applied conservation science or related fields is required. Candidates must demonstrate scholarship, leadership and have at least 5 years of experience conducting ecological research. Experience in interdisciplinary and innovative, integrated research approaches is a plus. Candidates should be able to work both independently and in a collaborative setting. Appointment: Appointments will be for two years starting in January 2025. Must reside in or be willing to relocate to California. Starting salary is approximately $66,560 a year plus benefits (DOE).
