Hello,
I'm looking to work on updating the illumos code for the e1000 and igb
(particularly the latter), and I'm finding that the code we have (derived
from FreeBSD apparently) is quite a bit stale ... in particular it lacks
support for some configurations of the 82575 that are present in my
platform. (I have a platform configuration that uses these with SERDES
connections to an external Marvell PHY ... don't ask, it's an Intel board.
:-)
The thing is, I see that the Linux code for the 82575 is pretty far
advanced relative to the last code drop I've seen for FreeBSD.
I'd be quite happy to make the rational equivalent changes to our code in
illumos, but the problem I have with that is that the code is licensed
under GPL, which is toxic to our kernel.
Does anyone know if there is an updated version of the FreeBSD shared code
available under BSD or similar license anywhere? Can anyone from Intel
point me in the right direction? Alternatively, can I get some kind of
blanket statement granting the reuse of the Intel Linux driver (or the
modifications made since the last freebsd update, nearly all of which were
done by @intel.com addresses, and those which weren't are not relevant to
non-Linux systems) under BSD terms?
Thanks!
