Title: global appmenu doesn't work with install-recommends off Status in The Leadville project: New Status in unity-2d package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: In an system with install-recommends disabled and with indicator- appmenu and appmenu-gtk installed, unity-2d does not provide proper global menu support, by which I mean: application menus are not fully integrated into the top panel. Such integration also requires installing appmenu-gtk3. But this requirement is difficult to find. * With indicator-appmenu and appmenu-gtk but without appmenu-gtk3 installed, an app menu (for example nautilus) is just below and contiguous too the unity-2d panel, not integrated into it. * When appmenu-gtk3 is then installed, the app menu is fully integrated. (See attachments.) This requirement for appmenu-gtk3 was only discovered by experimentation. It is too hidden. (I know of at least one other project that didn't find it either.) What to do, if anything? Perhaps create a new pkg named 'appmenu-unity-2d' that depends on the required packages and is a Recommend of unity-2d. If the person/project does not want appmenu support, they don't install it, but if they do, they get a working system without having to figure out the required packages. (This sounds like a meta pkg since its only reason for existence would be its dependencies.)
