Recent Wily i386 live DVDs load with no launcher, top bar, desktop

Bug description:
Recent Wily i386 live DVD images running in qemu should the background
and a cursor, which moves as expected, but no launcher, desktop icons,
top bar, etc. amd64 images do not show this issue. I am attempting to
reproduce the issue on physical hardware.
