Yes, very much so, there is one question, 258578 and a bug report 1399302, both describe in detail what happened after an upgrade in place from 14.04 LTS to 14.10.
Subsequently I rebuilt a system from 10.04 LTS through two upgrades and ended up with 14.04.1 LTS and I have neither panel nor launcher. Since the reinstallation and now in 14.04.1 LTS a kernell upgrade happened and no change. The system works, everything I installed is OK but I can only use a Gnome desktop, which is all right, but not as useful as Unity.. This is an ongoing problem on this Dell Vostro laptop wit AMD processor and video. A resolution would most definetely be welcome. I will provide any and all info that would or could help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dx-packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1319146 Title: new installation of 14.04LTS, no panel or launcher Status in Unity: Incomplete Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: In reference to bug # 2304568, lost launcher and panel in 14.04LTS Beta2, I ended up sending the motherboard for repairs. This has been repaired and installed as of today. I also installed a brand new 120GB SSD upon which I installed a newly downloaded version od 14.04LTS. I kept my /home on another drive, but for that it is essentially a new installation. System started, asked for password and at that time the panel was visible with date, time and the shutdown button. After entering password system came up without launcher and also without panel. I changed density on the screen just incase launcher was off the screen, no luck. This now has become a serious problem, as I cannot acces any of the files on my hard diks, nor can I use this system for any work. I also do not know how I can send any bug info other than this description, I have no access to Terminal, only "all settings" is available and all icons do their job when requested. I would really appreciate it if this were looked in quickly. --- ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu EcryptfsInUse: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0412] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:d000] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-05-13 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
