When you unhide the launcher by pushing the cursor to the left edge (launcher is set to hide) and move the cursor down the screen, the icons unfold; the top icons disappear from the launcher. When you move the cursor to the top, the top icons re-appear, but after a few seconds, the launcher hides (again). So moving the cursor upwards behaves differently from downwards and it is certainly not wanted. Apparently, unity assumes the cursor is on the top bar, so not on the launcher anymore.
