Adding a me-too. I came from 12.04 using Unity-2d, and use Emacs so use the alt key a lot, and use emacs-style Alt shortcuts in the terminal too. I'm endlessly having to deal with an unwanted HUD.
Firstly, since the HUD doesn't work for Emacs, it shouldn't appear at all for apps for which it's disabled. But secondly the heuristics are all wrong. I love the HUD, but I'm going to have to change the shortcut key because it's making my system infuriating. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. In gnome-terminal, type alt-s. ESC s will be sent correctly to the terminal, but the HUD will then appear and capture subsequent keystrokes. The HUD feels a bit more sensitive now; I've had to move it to a different key combination to avoid this issue.
