Waiting for a solution, I found this: download this applet (it's originally for 
KDE): 
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/amd64/indicator-printers/0.1.7+14.04.20140313-0ubuntu1
and add "printer-applet" to start with ubuntu. This works for me, ubuntu 14.04 
64 bits.

Status in “indicator-printers” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  even after lates updates still no printer notifications in the panel .
  I checked and the package "indicator-printers" is correctly installed
  and the printer prints without problems. But, there is no notification
  icons on unity panel. I had no problems at all with 13.10 instead
