Thanks, that icon is used when a device is paired. Knowing when somebody
connects to e.g your laptop is useful information, do you think we could
consider adding that to the spec?

There is some situation -- I don't know what -- in which the Bluetooth
icon in the menu bar appears with a padlock emblem.
This is not mentioned anywhere in the design specification.
