Dave you're right, it should open to the calendar.
This is in the spec at

Date doesn't connect to anything when clicked

Bug description:
Design bug initially.
On the indicator-datetime if you drag it down you get the date and
the time. If you click on the time it opens in the clock, if you
click on the date I expect it to open in the calendar but instead it
close the indicator and opens nothing.
