I have the same problem. HUD totally useless now. Since HUD is a critcal part of Unity this is really anoying. Please fix this asap! I am using Ubuntu 13.10 64bit and Compiz rotating cube.
I have tried the Unity reset described above at Felipe, but it did not help. While you are at it: is it possible to enhance the launcher buttons management? It would be great to be able to modify properties of buttons through right clicking on them. I would like to be able to change button properties like: icon file, full path of program launched, etc. Now I modify those properties by editting the .desktop files in ~/.local/share/applications/. Right clicking on a button would be so much easier!
