unity-scope-calculator is now available in 13.10. It can be invoked from Dash home by typing e.g. "calculator:2+2", or typing the expression and then selecting "Calculator" from filters in Home.

It is triggered by pressing <alt +f2>= then you can type in some simple calculation eg. 1+2 the result is then displayed below. When you press <enter> the result is copied into the input line, from where you can copy it or use it in more calculations. This is something I'm missing while moving from KDE to Unity.
