I have encountered this problem several times too. I don't think it is of 'low' importance by two reasons:
1) People are using standby a lot these days, so many people will encounter this error. 2) The datetime indicator is a very basic program with a small, well defined functionality. Not being able to show the date is maybe worse than don't showing anything at all, as people may take wrong decisions based on wrong information.
