are you doing this on JSPUI or XMLUI?
In XMLUI, it was my understanding of the current situation that logging in
always redirects to the homepage. This is an identified problem and is
being discussed here:
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-570
I haven't been able to reproduce what you describe locally.
