Hi, At this point in time, I don't believe thumbnail images can be shared via OAI-PMH. It would be possible to achieve this, but it'd require customizing the code of the "dspace-oai" module to save the URL of the thumbnail to a metadata field, so that it can be used/shared by the various OAI crosswalks in [dspace]/crosswalks/oai/.
We do welcome code contributions from anyone (as DSpace is built/maintained by its community of users). Or you are welcome to submit a ticket <https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues> to request this improvement, and we'll do our best to locate a volunteer (though usually it requires finding someone else who wants this feature).
