The first step to fixing any error is to find the underlying error
message. Use the Troubleshooting Guide for
details:
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error#Troubleshootanerror-DSpace7.x(orabove)

Once you find that underlying error, you should check the Common
Installation Issues to see if it's fix is described
there:
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Installing+DSpace#InstallingDSpace-CommonInstallationIssues

Without finding the underlying error, it's not possible for anyone else to
help. That 500 exception is a generic error that just means "something
went wrong" or "the frontend cannot communicate with the backend". You
need to find the underlying error for details as to why that problem is
occurring.
