Hi Carolyn, Please look for "ERROR" messages in your dspace.log immediately after you trigger the error message you mentioned previously. See https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error for more info on finding errors in logs.
Unfortunately, it's extremely difficult to provide any useful suggestions without seeing the error messages that DSpace is logging behind the scenes (we'd be blindly guessing, and that won't be helpful). The logs you provided seem to only include INFO (and DEBUG) messages up to the point where the database was initialized. However, if the UI is throwing errors, then those would be logged later on in the dspace.log file. If somehow there are no errors in the dspace.log file, also check your Tomcat & database logs to see if any errors are appearing there.
