Hi Augustina, I have investigated the item versioning functions recently on version 5.6 (JSPUI). Unfortunately my impression was not so good. There were several issues with it: * only the admin can add versions of an item, the author or editor or anyone else can't do that * the handle will be kept for the most recent version (canonical handle) instead of the original one, i.e. that the handle for the original version will change! For our use case this is definitely not what we want. And as far as I saw that, this behaviour cannot get changed in version 5.6 (but in version 6) * the submitter is displayed in the version history
All of these issues have been addressed in version 6 and I guess they are solved. But there may be other reasons not to switch to version 6 right now. Version 6 also supports DOI versioning, in version 5 out of the box a completely new DOI will be generated for the new item. >From these test results I would recommend not to use item versioning before version 6 - but this may depend on your exact use cases and perhaps on your UI (as I mentioned I tested on JSPUI only). Obviously in other cases this works pretty fine, as Fernanda pointed out. Best regards Oliver Am Mittwoch, 21.
