Discovery will receive the following features & improvements:
* Search snippets & hit highlighting
** Uses stemming: e.g. "modeling" or "models" are considered identical for hit
highlighting.
** Display e.g. title, authors with search keywords highlighted in the regular
display
** Display the abstract or full text: limited to the section containing
relevant keywords
* "More like this feature", aka Recommendations
** Shows related items on item display pages
** Items with similar title, author, creator, subject as current item
** Configurable in Spring: which fields used for matching, minimum matching
strength, max # items, minimum word length
* Hierarchical metadata facet support
** Will display only top-level facets in navigation bar
** User can filter on either top-level or lower-level topics
** After including a filter on top-level facet, Discovery will display both the
items containing the top-level facet and the items contain the child facets
* Access Rights Awareness
** Relevant for items without READ rights
** If metadata is private, items are not included in search results (unless the
current user has permissions to see the item metadata)
* Improved user interface
** Stronger focus on search field
** No filters displayed by default
** Clearer differentiation exact filters from sidebar vs. plain text filters
