Hello Phil,
browsing by a single Author results in a list of his items, default ordered by
title.
The jump navigation refers to the list at hand, in this case the selected
authors items. If your author's list isn't that long, only one page, the jump
to can't jump anywhere.
Here is an example of an author with a couple of more titles, so you can try
the jump navigation:
