All,

DSpace 1.6.0 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) has now been released and is
available at the following locations:

Subversion:
svn checkout http://scm.dspace.org/svn/repo/dspace/tags/dspace-1.6.0-rc1/

Zip Files from SourceForge :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dspace/files/
(This release is under the under the "DSpace Release Candidate /
1.6.0-rc1 (patched)" folder.)

Unfortunately, just after the release occurred, we located our very
first bug in the XMLUI. But, shortly thereafter, we figured out a fix!
  Therefore, if you plan to do any testing with the XMLUI during next
week's Testathon, we would highly recommend one of the following fixes
for this major bug:
(1) Either, install DSpace from the "dspace-1.6.0-rc1-src-release"
version from SourceForge (in this patched version, the bug is already
fixed for you)
(2) OR, manually patch your version of DSpace 1.6.0-RC1 with the small
patch attached to this JIRA issue:
      http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-395

Remember, we start our DSpace 1.6 Testathon - "The Big Bug Hunt" on
Monday. We already have a few of our Test Instances up and running with
the patched version of DSpace 1.6.0-RC1. Please try to take some time
out of your day to help us test! More information about the Testathon
is available at:
http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/DSpace_Release_1.6.0_Testathon_Page

Enjoy your preview of DSpace 1.6! As a reminder, here's a list of the
major new features to look out for:
* Improved Statistics
* Embargo
* Batch Metadata Editing
* Improved Documentation
* Authority Control Lists
* Delegated Administration (e.g. Community Administrators)
