If you want, in a later patch you could just remove the conditions here
and say:

                chipset_dev->poll_jiffies = POLLJIFFIES_CONTROLVM_SLOW;
        } else {
                chipset_dev->poll_jiffies = POLLJIFFIES_CONTROLVM_FAST;
        }
